"Diffused" lighting was used for these photos, to reduce glare and better show color and detail.  The tooth's enamel will appear more glossy in person, than it does in the photos.

Description - This tooth is in "near-perfect" condition, with the exception of a very slightly smoothed tip and a couple small nicks in the left blade edge.  It's beyond maximum size for the species.  On top of that, it has an interesting pathology.  The reverse blade surface has a depressed, discolored area that I can only describe as a "cavity."  This is definitely not post-mortem (after death) because the tooth shows growth response to the "cavity."  The display side enamel is raised at the same spot as the "cavity."  Also, there is an atypical sharp bend of the right blade edge, opposite to the "cavity."  Are older sharks more prone to getting "cavities?"  Any shark dentists out there?
