Description - When you see this tooth in person, one of the first things you'll notice is the "beefy" root. Second, you'll notice the light color and extensive white erosion markings (caused by minerals leeched from the fossil by plant roots). The tip and blade edges have slight damage/smoothing, primarily associated with the erosion mentioned above. This is currently the largest Isurus planus tooth that I have, and one of the largest I've seen. NOTE - You may notice a vertical line on the front of root that looks like the right third of the root may have been broken off and reattached. That does not appear to be the case. In fact, that does not appear to be a crack. |
