Description - The front of the root obviously has some cracking. There is also some cracking across the top of the root, but the tooth was very solid to begin with, and now, with further stabilization of the root with preservative, there is NO danger of a problem (guaranteed). The big gray/blue blade has dramatic vertical striping, caused by Manganese Oxides filling cracks in the enamel (typical enamel splitting). The tip of the tooth has very slight damage/smoothing and there is a small piece of missing blade edge next to the root on the left. With all of that said, you may not fully appreciate how large and nice this tooth will look around your neck. You WILL like it. There is something you need to understand about this necklace. It's a quality piece of jewelry, but it's intended to look "rustic". Notice that instead of featuring precious metals, the necklace features heavy cord, clay River Beads and a millions year old fossil shark tooth. It would be right at home on the beach, on a fossil hunting trip or at a Biker Rally, but you probably wouldn't see many at church, an opera or a fancy dinner. Then again, who knows?
To better understand how the cord adjusts, look at the photo below. Those are VERY secure knots. You can lengthen the necklace by sliding the knots closer together. This can be easily done, by grabbing each side of the necklace ("single cord" sections) and pulling apart. Don't let the knots touch though, or you'll need Needle-Nose Pliers to separate them again. To shorten the necklace, grab both knots and slide them away form each other (creating more "doubled cord"). When maximally shortened, almost the entire cord will be double and the knots will be visible near the beads/pendant, which may actually add to the rugged look of the necklace. The benefit of the adjustability is that you can make the tooth hang on your chest exactly where you want, which may be different, depending on what you're wearing.
The above photo shows an example of the knots creating the adjustable necklace. It may not be a photo of this particular necklace. |
