If this hand-carved shark were dropped, one of the wooden fins could be broken. While it should be handled with care, don't be shy about handling it. The carver did, when he created this work of art. Imagine the strokes of the carver's knife or perhaps even the thrusts of the swimming shark. As you hold the shark, you are actually helping to preserve it. The wood is in it's natural state (oiled, but not stained or surface treated). The oils from your skin help to condition the wood, preventing drying and cracking. If this item is not handled regularly, it should be lightly treated with oil approximately once each year. NOTE: One or more fins may be carved from a separate piece of wood and attached to the shark body. Also, the lower jaw is sawn off during the carving process and reattached, after shark teeth are glued into place. |
